Micro/nano Surface Tension Measurement by 2d-capillary Wave Resonance

چکیده
The analysis of capillary waves in confined microspace by quasi-elastic laser scattering (QELS) method enables surface tension measurements. In contrast to previous works, a simple single-beam-focusing method based on spontaneous capillary wave resonance with its confined size is proposed. The capillary wave resonance has been successfully demonstrated in confined two-dimensional micro surface at circular apertures. Moreover, the surface tension dependence on surfactant concentration has been successfully measured at 44-μm-sized circular liquid surface. This method is expected to be a powerful tool for bio and chemical sensing at micro/ nano-scale liquid interfaces.

Direct measurement of the dispersion relation of capillary waves by laser interferometry
Surface waves on fluids with wavelengths in the millimeter range are known as capillary waves. Surface tension determines the propagation and dispersion of capillary waves while gravity plays a minor role. We describe a simple method for generating standing capillary waves of known frequency on water and introduce a novel noncontact technique based on laser interferometry to measure the wavelen...

The theory of non-linear wave interactions leading to so-called interfacial wave turbulence, where a broadband distribution of capillary wave phenomena may be induced by a monofrequency oscillator, is well known, but experimental results are rare. In particular, it is challenging to set up a physical system where both capillary wave amplitudes are easy to measure and capillary forces dominate g...

In this paper we prove a global regularity result for a quadratic quasilinear model associated to the water waves system with surface tension and no gravity in dimension two (the capillary waves system). The model we consider here retains most of the difficulties of the full capillary water waves system, including the delicate time-resonance structure and modified scattering. It is slightly sim...

The present investigation entails a procedure by which the surface tension and viscosity of liquids could be redicted. To this end, capillary experiments were performed for porous media by utilizing fifteen different liquids and powders. The time of capillary rise to a certain known height of each liquid in a particular powder was recorded. Two artificial neural networks (ANNs) were...

Routine optical tasks of transforming and directing light beams are commonly done with lenses and mirrors. They are the workhorses in conventional systems, even for micro-optical systems. More sophisticated designs have brought novel and exotic functions, e.g., non-diffracting character via a Bessel beam [1], a dark spot via an optical bottle beam [2], and sub-λ confinement via a photonic nanoj...
